Hermann Goering formation evolved through a series of reorganizations. In 1933, special Prussian police force was formed as protective escort for newly elected National Socialist leaders. Nov 1935, detachment transferred to Luftwaffe and renamed General Goring Regiment (circa 2000 men). March 1942 increased to brigade status (circa 3000 men). Nov 1942 converted to Herman Goring Panzergrenadier regiment (with organic armor, artillery, motorized transportation). By March 1943, full Panzer Division status reach (with organic tanks, tank destroyers, artillery, mechanized transports).
