M2 was modified in 1960s for installation inside armor vehicles (mainly M60 tank and AAVP7 personnel carrier), designated M85 machine gun. By 1990s, this variant was no longer effective against modern armor personnel carriers, thus removed from frontline service. Nowadays, the M85 are primarily used for training and sold as military surplus to Allied markets overseas. M85 machine gun - www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m85.htm
