  • Rollover : Red Berlin Bear marking was informal unit symbol for 3rd Panzer Division since it was formed near Berlin, city got its bear association in 13th-century when German conqueror "Albert I the Bear" crossed River Elbe and defeated Slavic tribes in central Europe. • With this German hegemony, sister cities of Berlin (west side) and Kolln (east side) were established on River Speer to control crisscrossing trade routes. Kolln merged with Berlin as the latter expanded throughout the centuries. With German unification, Federal Republic moved its capitol back to unified Berlin in late-1990s to again position Germany at cross-roads of central Europe. Berlin - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin

  • WW1 saw massive destruction of men in stalemated trench warfare until slow-lumbering armored tractors carrying heavy machines and canons were able to cross No-Mans-Land and sweep the battlefield with mobile fire. After WW1 defeat, Germans appreciated potential of this weapon with General Hans von Seeckt as its leading proponent who commanded the Reichswehr : post-WW1 German Army. • WW1 Treaty of Versailles imposed by Allies upon Germany sanctioned only police and paramilitary forces for internal security and border control operations. For next 15 years, German skated around restrictions by clandestinely testing tank prototypes in Soviet Union and sharing its data with the Soviets. Various project cover names were given to these tank prototypes to disguise their real intent, such as 1926 Grosstraktor (big tractor) for 75mm gun, 1927 Leichtetraktor (light tractor) for 37mm gun mount, or Landwirtschaftlicherschlepper (agricultural transporter). Germans also used Dummy Tanks (staff cars resembling tanks with sheet metal sides and turret) to practice armor maneuver operations. With Adolf Hitler's election as German Chancellor (contrary to common perception that Hitler seized power, he was actually democratically elected via parliamentary coalition), this pretense was dropped in 1934 as Germany prepared for unilateral full rearmament and ordered a Bataillonfuehrerwagen (battalion command vehicle) to be constructed.
