Close-up of Stupa zimmerit pattern. Since the putty dried quickly, applied it in small amount in top-bottom fashion, then used a small plastic tab to create parallel contours. Spray gun used to paint soft-edge Forest Green lines. Selbstfahrladfetten Zielfernrohr (single lens self-retracting telescope) protruding above hull is gunner targeting periscope.

With Stupa using Panzer IV chassis, production cost reduced by recycling Panzer IV tanks recovered from battlefield damage by removing turret and partial hull assembly. Interior spacing only allowed 38 150mm shells to be stored (with both armor-piercing and high-explosive warheads), manhandling this ammunition was laboriously slow process
in cramp compartment. Armored-Piercing shell used
against armored targets like tanks and armored cars. High-Explosive shells used against hardened targets like fortifications, buildings, or even mass infantry attacks.

Inset 1 : Eastern Front Stupa advancing on steep grade, note all schurzen is missing, only its mounting brackets are left. Schurzen probably torn off as vehicle collided against obstacles like trees, embankments, buildings, etc.
