To be fair, Soviets argued just the opposite, that it was their great Bagration Offensive on 22 June 1944 utterly destroying German Army Group Center, which accelerated demise of German military prowess. Germans did suffer circa 75% of their casualties on Eastern Front. Operation Bagration - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Bagration

Unternehmen Rösselsprung (Yugoslavia): Operation Knight's Move, by coincidence Germans launched their 7th anti-partisan operation in Yugoslavia. On 6 June 1944, they landed SS-Fallschirmjäger (Waffen-SS paratroopers) onto Yugoslav partisan leader Marshal Tito's cave headquarter in Dvar region of Bosnia. The plan was to either capture or kill Marshall Tito and his senior staff, thus cripple partisan leadership, restore communication and logistics in region before arrival of Soviet offensive. This was also the last time SS paratroopers were used in airborne drops. Operation_Rösselsprung (Raid on Dvar) - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Rösselsprung

After
ROME capture, Allied armies battled with great difficulty in northern Italy. With escape of German 10th Army out of Liri Valley, a succession of defense lines were constructed between Rome and Venice, with names such as Viterbo Line, Trasimene Line, Arno Line,
Gothic Line, Genghis Khan Line, Po Line, Adige Venetian Line, Alpine Line. Germans executed methodical retreats from one defensive line
to another, destroyed transportation centers, blown bridges, and
other scorch-earth actions.

Rollover : American
infantrymen bear-and-grunted such hardships on Italian front, but privately condemned futility of throwing good manpower via frontal
assaults against well-entrenched German positions. History note : former US Kansas Senator / 1996 Republican Presidential candidate Bob Dole was veteran of these Italian mountain battles. He was severely
wounded by German rifle shell which shattered his right shoulder
blade. Upon his return, his Kansas hometown donated medical
funds for reconstructive surgery. Thus, he pledged his career to
public service in part to repay the kindness of his fellow citizens. Senator Bob Dole - www.bobdole.org
