Stupa design began October 1942, based on German need for Eastern Front street battles, especially blasting entrenched enemies within large buildings, production started March 1943. 150mm StuH 43 L/12 gun selected as main armament, gun came from Skoda sIG 33 self-propelled artillery vehicles. Proposal also envisioned arming 210mm or 220mm mortars, but design was never completed. 150mm SIG 33 Howitzer - www.grenadier352nd.com/html_pages/artillerie/gun_photos/hobnails.htm
- Inset : First version converting sIG33 towed artillery to self-propelled artillery was installation onto Panzer I chassis. Complete artillery piece is rolled into slots on top of tank chassis, armored shields added for crew protection against enemy small-caliber weapons, but its tall silhouette was a distinct disadvantage since it can be seen from a distance. Its full German name is 15cm sIG33 (Sf) auf Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf B (15cm heavy infantry howitzer on Panzer I model B tank). 15 cm siG33 (Sf) auf PzKpfw I Ausf B - www.wwiivehicles.com/germany/self_propelled/sig33.html
