  • Corsair front section, black chalk brushed along the panel lines blurred nicely into blue camouflage background after being sprayed with a layer of TESTOR Dullcoat. Pilot was painted in tan uniform, black headgear, grey goggles, his head was sawed off and repositioned at an angle to give the model some action-pose personality. Code 11WS refers to number 11th aircraft of WS (VMF-323) squadron.

  • F4U-4 was a late WW2 variant, being armed with four 20mm wing cannons. Original Corsairs were armed with six 50-caliber heavy machine guns, but with the Japanese 1944-1945 Kamikaze onslaught, heavier firepower was needed to bring out the enemy in quicker succession than what the 50-caliber could offer. Main difference between Bullet Caliber and Cannon Shell munitions is that the latter had an explosive small warhead, thus creating greater damage than a mere lead slug can perpetrate. Rollover : View along the left wing, showing close-up of the Rattle Snake insignia.
