This fighter type was delivered to Switzerland after brokerage of Me-110 incident between Swiss/German diplomats in May 1944. Swiss Fliegertruppe commanded 14 Bf-109G fighter planes, of which 12 were purchased from Germany, remaining two were interned when they strayed into Swiss air space.
- Allegedly, German Nazi party leaders still stewing over Swiss refusal in returning the twin-engine Me-110G night fighter, clandestinely ordered the Bf-109G fighter shipments be sabotaged. Numerous malfunctions emerged after Switzerland took delivery, so outraged the Swiss demanded their money back. Embarrassed by entire affair, German diplomatic corps partially refunded the money to Switzerland, which was significant gesture considering dire straits of German military situation on all battle fronts.
