  • During battles in 1944 Normandy front, Tiffy from 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force operated in CAB RANK positions where British or Allied ground forward liaisons could direct Typhoons stationed above the battlefield via radio communications (which was a military novelty at that time), to attack specific ground targets be it a dug-in tank, heavy fortifications, or even snipers hidden among tree lines. clip

  • Rollover : Tiffy underside, white sections on wings were painted, hence its more brilliance than stripe decals placed on fuselage. By end of Normandy battles in August 1944, about 380 Typhoons flew 35,000 sorties, launched 265,000 rockets, fired 13 million rounds of 20mm cannon shells. Credited with destruction of 1,000 tanks, 50 locomotives, and 30 barges, with a lost of 75 planes and over 170 damaged.

  • TP code assigned to RAF No. 198 Squadron, their unit motto via Latin inscription was INGI RENATUS (Reborn by Fire). Unit insignia (shown right) consisted of a phoenix holding a sword in its beak rising above the flames. Localization note, European culture view Latin as eminent classical language and quasi-Langua Franca among its nation-states, but American-English tends to leverage either modern French or German words as plush lingual vestiges, such as 1980s German Volkswagen brand tagline Fahrvergnügen (Driving Pleasure). • Localization note, word CAB RANK is British vernacular for TAXI STAND, but in British Cockney slang, word also meant Bank. Via American-English, it would be called FLYING STATION. Cab Rank - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cab_rank
