  • Babylon-5 Earth Alliance Theseus-class Destroyer "Agathon". My first 100% resin project, b5 pictstress-testing one's patience and insights in building full resin kits. Given resin surface texture, quickly appreciated using plumber's glue (for sealing leaking pipes), super glue (to fill-in small crevices), and automotive ceramic paste (for filling, shaping, sanding parts).   • Main model building challenge was malformed resin parts for rear engine section, decided restoration was not worth the effort. Hence, modified Earth Alliance Omega-class destroyer into new Theseus-class destroyer with upgraded frontal weaponry and engine mount.

  • Inset 1 : Agathon underside showing front hull antennae array, power conduits lines made from etched brass parts originally designed for rear engine, struts made from electronic power connector heads.

  • Rollover : Agathon full profile, dual yellow bands on rear engine section and front hull fins indicate 2nd Division nicknamed the "Marauding Minotaurs". Ship painted in overall Tamiya Dark Grey acrylic, paint washed in Testor Black enamel, drybrushed via Testor Navy Gull Grey. Black bands on mid-rotating hull masked off with blue paint trim tape and airbrushed via Tamiya Black acrylic. Discovered that blue paint b5 picttrim masking tape more cost-effective than using hobby-specific masking tape, and with less adhesive qualities it was less potential of pulling off painted undersurfaces contrasted with regular beige masking tapes.   • Inset 2 : For model display, did not want to insert metal rods underneath the ship for fear model's weight may crack surrounding resin parts. Novel approach was to purchase Walmart polished metal towel wall hangers, its U-shaped hook interior lined with small anti-skid cushion pads. Pads resisted model surface scratches when resting on display stand.
