These small robots size of blood cells were reprogrammed by the Borg for assimilation process, thus a captured entity was virtually transformed instantly into a Borg without the time-consuming surgical process of hardware integration.   • It first Star Trek Next Generation movie, Borg was reintroduced as a hive collective with a hierarchical insertqueen controlling the collective. This altered original premise that Borg was a decentralized entity, but it gave Star Trek script writers a single nemesis for audience to focus their attention. In addition, original concept was to have Locutus character mapped out about 3 or 4 Star Trek TNG episodes to expand its character interplay.

  • However, to preserve audience attention (and expectation of a nice begin-end to this Picard Borg abduction), Locutus was kept to 2 episodes. Nevertheless, Locutus character was worked into subsequent Star Trek TNG episodes and movies as Picard character regularly succumb to nightmares or flashbacks since he was the first human rescued from the Borg after assimiliation.
