To experience Starship Trooper via Windows-XP Gamer First Person Shooter (FPS) genre , the PC-DVD game to get is "StarShip Troopers" (2005 release). All FPS combat is done on the ground of various bug-infested planets. And there will be tons of bugs attacking in massive wave assaults. Gameplay screen-cap above shows upfront bugs combat in valley floor of Outpost #29, armed with automatic rifle & in-line shotgun, scene similar to Whiskey Station outpost on planet Klendathu. Rollover : FPS combat around Outpost #29, one is tasked to run the gauntlet along the perimeter walls defending against bug breaches and aerial assaults, until Tanker Bug shows up and breaks into compound. Only way to defeat Tanker Bug is aim for its head with continuous volleys of any weapons you have in your arsenal. Tanker along with Aerial Bugs will be spewing tons of napalm into the compound, this assault is complemented by Warrior Bugs charging into your mist. Fortunately, most of the Warrior Bugs are burned up by the napalm dump, enabling your character to duck into nearby shacks for routine cover. I confess, playing this game.... I did use a cheat code to give me maximum ammunition on-demand (you will still have to search and secure more powerful weapons on the game map), but even with this perk, one is highly-strung to use maneuver and execute tactical assaults on the fly to lay waste the enemy, it's no cake-walk for sure. Various names have been given to Starship Trooper bug nemesis, in the movies they are referred to as Arachnids (a remark off Earth arachnids). In the novel, they are called Pseudo-Arachnids, yet another version is in Starship Troopers: The Miniatures Game strategy game as Arachnid Empire. Still another variant is 3rd movie called as Archie (nickname alias similar to WW2-era nicknames for Jerry for Germans, Nips for Imperial Japanese, Ami for Americans, Tommy for British, etc.)
Outpost #29 perimeter combat, your character has to retrieve power cells from a crashed dropship in order to power-up the nav-beacon for rescue ships to ride the beam into outpost compound for team pickup.
On top of heavy machine gun tower engaging both ground and aerial targets. Design of these weapons resemble Soviet 12.7mm DShK gun (Soviet contemporary to US M2 50-cal machine gun). DShK - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DShK
DShK is still in production (via Russian Federation & Red Chinese) and can be found in world battlefields in Middle East, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America.
Battling to retrieve power cells near Outpost #29, path leads to open valley floor where Warrior Bugs guards its entrance. Battling in is the easy part, battling out is way harder since 10 times number of bugs will be charging out of the exit path towards you. One will have to use a combination of time-sensitive mines and direct assault to blast a path out.
Night-time battle on Bug planet, this scene is to hold-off bug assault for engineers to setup power grid to fire-up the defense field generators. Tons of dead green-blooded bugs spewed throughout the base.
