Rollover : Long slender legs and big bust lines are a sign of beauty in Western societies. Psychologists speculated such perceptions is based on procreation and child-bearing, such as subconscious notion of easy childbirth. Comparing with East Asian societies, large eye apertures and light skin complexion are considered signs of beauty. For Asians, oval eyes capture more attention than standard elliptical eyes, while skin color potentially refers to social status for darker color may allude to working class (work in the fields, absorb sun tan).
- However, dark skin alone should not be considered a social status symbol. Many Asian ethnic groups by default have darker skin complexion, such as Austronesians (ex Filipino, Indonesian, Khmer). Their marriage among East Asian civilizations in the past centuries have intermingled the genetic make-up. It is not uncommon for a Chinese family to have fair skinned off-springs for multiple generations, only to suddenly have one with darker skin pigmentation from the same lot, such is the random genetic order.
