May 2001, Kitty Hawk on exercise near Queensland-Australia. Hanger bay below flight deck stored with F-14 Tomcat, F-18 Hornet, E-2C Hawkeye airborne radar planes. Cramp conditions required folded-wing aircrafts for efficient storage of up to 85 propeller planes and jets. Carrier has accommodations for about 5,500 men, of which 3,000 are required for ship operation, with another 2,500 required for its air wing operation. From this complement, circa 600 are officers with remaining being enlisted men. F-14 Tomcat - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-14

Rollover : Dec 2002, men at hanger bay entrance, preparing to receive supplies from USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204). Photo reddish haze is from red lights used inside the vessel, its low wavelength and intensity prevent potential enemies from identifying the vessel from afar. This color principle is also used in astronomy spectrum analysis (ex. blue refers to approaching objects, red refers to departing objects) and to military vehicle insignia (ex. WW2 Germans used black, red, blue numbering schemes). Visible spectrum - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_spectrum

End of WW2 elevated aircraft carriers as premier capital ships over heavily-armed dreadnought battleships. Carriers never sail alone, for they would be extremely vulnerable to enemy attack. Carriers are assigned to Battle Forces, with a combination of surface combat, logistical, amphibious warfare, submarine units. Other US naval force structures are Mobilization Forces (naval reserves), Strategic Forces (specifically for Ballistic Missile Submarines), and Support Forces (mobile logistic and support vessels).
