5.1 ) Paint & Delivery

Variety of paint types and delivery mechanisms are used for showcase, camouflage and weathering effects. Paints are divided into categories of Acrylic, Enamel, Tube-based. Its reflective qualities are determined by Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Matte (also called Dull or Flat) standards. Delivery mechanisms include paint brush, spray can, spray gun, paint pen.

Acrylic Bottled : Water-based paints are thinned with isopropyl alcohol solution before application. UweM utilize this type via paint brush and spray gun since it can be readily diluted. Related equipment can be cleaned with hot water and soap solution. Acrylics are mainly used for the model's base color and camouflage. A portion of the paint paste is scoped out for mixture with the alcohol. UweM's primarily uses Tamiya, Polly-S Scale and Testors Acrylics.

Enamel Bottled: Oil-based non-viscous paints are diluted with paint thinner solution before application. UweM uses this type via paint brush for small figures or model surfaces that require a strong paint grip after the initial coat. Related equipment must be cleaned with paint thinner, then washed with hot water and soap solution. A portion of the paint paste is scoped out for mixture with the thinner. UweM's primarily uses Testors Model Master Enamels.

Tube-Dispensed : Related to Enamels in being oil-based, but more viscous. The paint is squeezed from a tube and be applied in a thin film or thick chunks. UweM uses this paint type for model and diorama weathering.

Paint Brush : Synthetic water color brushes range from sharp to all-purpose tipped heads, offering both cost effectiveness and dexterous control. However, the brush tips may produce line streaks depending on the viscosity. Brush with no bristles is used for paint mixing.

Spray Can : Paint delivered via aerosol cans, offers quick means of painting a model without using a spray gun, also avoids potential line streaks from brush tips. However, aerosol cans spray at a constant pressure, hence may overtly collect on one part of the model. UweM's primarily uses Testors Model Master and Tamiya Color aerosol paints.

Air Brush : Provides paint delivery via a fine mist of compressed air at variable pressure. Both consistent surfacing and complex camouflage patterns can be accomplished. Nevertheless, multiple accessories are required including the spray gun, air tubing, pressure control valve, multiple sized nozzle heads, air compressor, aerosol cans.

Paint Pen : Acrylic or Enamel paints are stored in the pen shaft, the pen's shaped head enables controlled delivery to small areas that brushes or spray guns have difficulty in painting.

Isopropyl Alcohol is used to dilute Acrylic paints. Although water can be substituted, alcohol has better dilution abilities.

Paint Thinner is used to dilute Enamel paints. Using an eye-dropper, precise thinner solution can delivered onto the paint paste.
